Facebook Rolling Out Simpler Privacy Controls

We knew Facebook had to do something. For a couple of weeks, the company had been sending signals that change was in the works as it faced a barrage of criticism over recent adjustments that seemed to weaken users’ privacy controls on the world’s largest social network.

Now Mark Zuckerberg, the company’s cofounder and CEO, has outlined what those changes will look like. In a conference call with reporters, he described new features that will allow users to dramatically limit how their information is shared with others on the site and Facebook’s partners.

Zuckerberg also sought to dispel the perception that he cares more about Facebook’s bottom line than its users’ privacy. eSecurity Planet takes a look.

Responding to mounting criticism over its privacy policies, Facebook has once again retooled the settings that govern how information is shared on the site.

The changes, announced on Wednesday, aim to provide users with a new and simplified set of controls, including a single button to click that can restrict access to all the information on users’ profiles to their friends.
