Microsoft Broadens Intune Cloud Beta for SMBs

While enterprises may be stealing all the headlines for their increasing willingness to shift to the cloud, small and midsized businesses are also gravitating to cloud-based services — and they’re just as eager to reap the cloud’s benefits.


That’s what Microsoft is counting on with its upcoming Intune system management offering. Based in the cloud, Intune is aimed at giving admins at smaller firms a simple way to handle remote system management, security and update management, hardware inventory and other options. The theme at Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) 2010 this year is that the company is “all in” when it comes to cloud computing.


Perhaps lost amid all the cloud computing announcements and demos at this year’s partner event, was the news that Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) said it has begun the second beta test of its Intune online services. Intune is designed to provide enterprise-class system management tools to small and medium-sized companies via the cloud — at a reasonable price.
