Yahoo is rewiring its Webmail service to give the venerable offering a more social, content-driven focus. The new beta version, released on Wednesday, offers tie-ins to Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other popular social-media destinations.

Additionally, Yahoo promises that its new Webmail will run at least twice as fast as the old version, thanks to a re-architected cloud-computing infrastructure. Datamation takes a look.

In a bid to layer in more social features to its core Web offerings, Yahoo has retooled its email service, offering an opt-in beta version that promises simpler navigation and integration with social services like Facebook and Twitter.

The revamped Webmail also offers new slideshow features offering integrations with Google’s (NASDAQ: GOOG) YouTube and Picassa and Yahoo’s (NASDAQ: YHOO) own Flickr photo service.
