SAP has issued a major update to its business intelligence and enterprise information management products, an upgrade some three years in the making.

With version 4, the company is revamping its BusinessObjects suite, targeting what it describes as the “real-time enterprise.”

“The 4.0 releases are part of our ongoing commitment to help customers get the most out of their analytics, beginning with tighter integration of our BI and EIM solutions, giving them a common look and feel, making them easy for people to use and derive value from, and delivering it to them quickly, in real-time, any way they want it, on any device — at their desk or on the go,” said Steve Lucas, a general manager at SAP and head of business analytics.

The new offering provides connection to social networking services, and support for a host of mobile devices. It also taps SAP’s in-memory processing technology and the Sybase database the company purchased last year.
