Auspex Systems, Inc. today introduced a new Network Attached Storage (NAS) server called the Auspex brat.

The company said all components in the brat come installed in a 52″ high x 28″ wide cabinet that occupies roughly half the space of a typical Auspex server. It includes 500 GB of storage, expandable in 500 GB increments up to 4 TB; Auspex’s NDMP-based TurboReplicator software for use in conjunction with the customer’s backup and restore application; a bilingual operating system that permits secure file sharing across UNIX and Windows platforms; two RAID controllers; one network interface card of the customer’s choice; and a power distribution unit built into the cabinet.

“This new server gives the marketplace a robust, low-cost storage and data delivery platform that minimizes total cost of ownership by allowing up to 4 TB of data to be managed on a single machine, and it also simplifies the sales and installation process for our channel partners,” said Bob Lastorka, Director of Channels, Eastern U.S., for Auspex Systems. “We expect the combination of these two factors to generate strong sales for the resellers and system integrators who represent us in the channel.”
