BakBone Software(TM), a provider of storage management software, this week announced a strategic OEM agreement with DISC, a manufacturer of automated solutions for enterprise storage.
According to the companies, the agreement enables DISC to distribute a private-labeled version of BakBone’s industry-leading MagnaVault(TM) software for UNIX-based optical storage management, which is designed to give enterprise customers the ability to rapidly archive and access documents and other images on optical disks, including CDS, DVDs, and magneto-optical (MO) media.
“After carefully reviewing the market and extensive testing of competitive nearline storage management software, BakBone’s MagnaVault emerged as the clear winner, an ideal fit for DISC’s broad range of optical-based storage automation and NAS products,” said Bob Riland, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at DISC, Inc.
MagnaVault version 2.2.6, released earlier this month, contains device drivers, file systems and jukebox management software for a wide range of optical libraries and drives running on Linux-based systems. An optical library appears as a standard file system that is completely transparent to existing applications, databases, and tools. Users can browse the contents of the jukebox as if the files were on a hard drive, with MagnaVault transparently scheduling and managing access to media in the jukebox.
