Computer Associates International Inc. announced the availability of a beta program for Cheetah, a new enterprise data protection solution for UNIX and Windows NT/2000 environments.

According to Computer Associates (CA), Cheetah will perform high performance data protection operations without impacting e-business operations.

“As our customers’ storage challenges continue to grow, CA is continuing to set the pace with ongoing innovation in data protection technologies,” said Philip Treide, vice president of storage solutions for CA. “The Cheetah beta program will give our customers the opportunity to participate directly in that innovation and help CA shape the next generation of solutions to ensure the integrity of critical e-business data.”

CA said key Cheetah features will include UNIX disaster recovery, the ability to deploy heterogeneous SAN environments, SAN and server less-enabled application agents, data protection for multiple NAS configurations, media management, and integration with EMC’s TimeFinder and Fastrax technologies.
