Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) this week announced the latest release of its BrightStor CA-Vtape Virtual Tape System (VTS).
CA said release 2.0 of BrightStor CA-Vtape VTS features major architectural improvements that can double the amount of data stored on virtual volumes.
BrightStor CA-Vtape VTS is a software solution that lets organizations use existing tape and mainframe hardware, as well as existing applications, to implement a virtual tape system, without requiring changes to the JCL. CA said it addresses the chronic problem of individual tape underutilization by stacking multiple files onto each tape volume.
“As IT organizations seek to do more with less, increasing the efficiency of legacy systems is particularly important,” said Phil Treide, vice president of marketing, storage solutions, CA. “BrightStor CA-Vtape VTS helps customers achieve this efficiency by dramatically increasing the amount of data readily available for eBusiness initiatives at any given time, using existing storage resources.”
