Crossroads Enhances New Library Series From StorageTek

Crossroads Systems Inc., a global provider of connectivity for storage networking solutions, announced it has expanded its partnership with StorageTek, with the integration of custom designed storage routers for the StorageTek L20/L40/L80 Series of Tape Libraries.

“StorageTek has sold thousands of our external routers under the StorageTek brand name over the last several years. By choosing to use Crossroads’ products internally, StorageTek has ensured their customers have the highest levels of interoperability in the open system SAN environment,” said Larry Sanders, president and chief operating officer of Crossroads Systems. “StorageTek is known for their leading-edge design and the quality of their enterprise class tape systems. These same attributes are evident in their new libraries targeted at the NT and low-end Unix space. Small and medium-sized businesses will benefit greatly from StorageTek’s entry into this market.”

“We worked closely with Crossroads to develop an embedded router platform that can be used across all three library models,” said Gary Francis, StorageTek corporate vice president, Automated Tape Solutions. “This partnership with the leader in storage routing allows StorageTek to cost-effectively find a flexible solution in connecting our new library models into the Fibre Channel SAN.”

The companies said the embedded routers used in the L40 and L80 libraries offer customers an additional option of Server-free backup. The embedded router manages the process, leaving the server processor free to perform other tasks. The user simply needs to buy and install the Server-free backup software to get this functionality on the L40 or L80 library. The Server-free feature is an option on the L20 version of the library.
