Fujitsu Ltd. today announced its intention to leverage a hard disk drive technology breakthrough that it said had recently come out of Fujitsu Laboratories.
According to the company, Fujitsu Laboratories achieved a recording density of 106.4Gigabits per square inch, which gives hard disk drives about three times the recording density of the latest models currently available.
The company also said hard disk drives integrating this increased areal density of 106.4Gigabits per square inch should become available within two years. The benefits include 2.5″ hard disk drives that could have a storage capacity of more than 110GB.
Details of the new technology were announced by Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. at the Magnetic Recording Conference in Minneapolis, Minn., on August 20.
