IBM has appointed Bell Microproducts, Ingram Micro Inc. and Tech Data Corporation as high volume distributors of select IBM storage products to the small and medium-size business (SMB) market.

“As demand to harness and maintain data more efficiently increases, backup and storage technologies will play an even greater role in small and medium size organizations,” said Roy Appelbaum, vice president and general manager of high-end storage and networking technologies at Tech Data. “The IBM NAS and LTO family of products provides a high-quality cost effective solution for resellers implementing storage technologies for their customers, and is certainly an important component of our product offering.”

According to IBM, this move is intended to broaden IBM’s storage sales channel by permitting non-IBM Business Partners to sell selected IBM products. The products to be offered by the new distributors include the IBM TotalStorage NAS 200 and IBM TotalStorage Ultrium Linear Tape Open (LTO) tape 3580 and 3581 models. The company said IBM TotalStorage FAStT 200 will be added in the near future.
