Emulex Corp. today announced that IDC has ranked Emulex the No. 1 Fibre Channel host bus adapter (HBA) supplier worldwide, in both units shipped and revenue.

In its report, “2001 Worldwide Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter Forecast and Analysis, 1998-2004,” IDC confirms that Emulex grew its No. 1 share of the Fibre Channel HBA market to 34.8 percent of the total supplier revenue and 32.1 percent of the total units shipped in 2000.

According to the IDC report, Emulex also captured 42.6 percent share of the merchant supplier revenue. Merchant suppliers are independent HBA manufacturers such as Emulex, and exclude server companies that utilize internally developed host bus adapters. IDC expects this market to shift toward independent HBA suppliers as leading OEMs transition to third party HBA technology.

Emulex attributes its success in 2000 to a number of factors, including multiple design wins with the industry’s leading OEMs, including Compaq, EMC and IBM. The company also demonstrated leadership in the storage networking industry with the introduction of its IP-based family of host bus adapters, including the GN9000/SI iSCSI HBA and the GN9000/VI VI/IP HBA.
