Iomega Ships New 720GB NAS

Iomega, the company that earned its reputation by bringing the world ‘Zip’ drives, today launched the Iomega NAS P415 in both Microsoft and UNIX versions, adding a 720GB NAS server to its family of NAS products. Designed for the growing storage needs of small and medium-sized businesses and enterprise workgroups, Iomega says that the NAS P415 offers easy installation and seamless support of multiple network environments and file protocols. In addition, the Windows Powered units give users the choice of high-performance Gigabit Ethernet or SCSI backup options.

“Whether it’s a small office or an enterprise workgroup, one of the biggest IT challenges today is managing and storing the exponential growth of data,” said Akshay Gupta, product general manager, back office products, Iomega Corporation. “Iomega not only designs NAS products to be flexible and easy to use, but also to be cost-effective solutions for organizing and protecting critical data while keeping an eye on the bottom line. The new Iomega NAS P415 models deliver high-end features at dramatically lower costs.”

Zane Adam, director of product management and marketing, Microsoft Enterprise Storage Division, said, “Iomega has a history of offering reliable and easy to use products. With Windows Powered NAS, Iomega now provides a powerful solution for small and medium businesses. Offering simplicity of deployment and management, Windows Powered NAS provides these organizations with a highly reliable solution that can be up and running within 15 minutes. Businesses can also take advantage of the powerful features of Windows Powered NAS to simplify network configuration, management and security, enabling them to accomplish more with fewer resources.”

The P415 ships with the new Iomega Automatic Backup software. Hardware features include a 1 GHz Intel Pentium III processor; hot-swappable 180 GB ATA hard drives; support for RAID 0, 1, and 5; and dual 10/100 Ethernet ports.

“This class of NAS box attacks the fastest growing segment of the entire mid-market,” said Steve Duplessie, Senior Analyst, The Enterprise Storage Group. “A product with this density, simplicity, and price can’t help but win. All this combined with Iomega’s channel sounds like a killer combination to me.”

The NAS P415u has a suggested retail price of $5,499; the Iomega NAS P415m and the Iomega NAS P415m with gigabit Ethernet support have an MSRP of $5,999. All three products are available for shipment this week.
