LeftHand Networks(TM today announced its debut product, the NSM (Network Storage Module) 100.
According to the company, the NSM’s architecture combines the performance of a Storage Area Network (SAN) with the ease-of-use of Network Attached Storage (NAS) in a stand-alone device. An integrated hardware and software product, the NSM operates over standard Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet networks, enabling companies to scale storage modules seamlessly in either block or file configuration via LeftHand Networks’ unique Advanced Ethernet Block Storage(TM) (AEBS) protocol.
The NSM 100 has a 1U form factor with 4 hot swap IDE drives, an 866MHz Pentium III Processor, redundant power supplies and up to 1GB of cache per module. Prices for a 160GB NSM system inclusive of hardware, software and a one-year service and remote support warranty begin at below $15,000. The product is currently in beta testing and is set to ship in December.
