Legato Systems, Inc., an enterprise storage management software vendor, has made available Legato NetWorker 6.2, which the company said adds the capability for Windows-based backup servers to deliver enterprise-level protection of UNIX and Windows data for NDMP-compliant (Network Data Management Protocol) Network Attached Storage (NAS) file servers.
Legato said NetWorker simplifies, centralizes, and automates backup and recovery operations across Linux, NetWare, Unix and Windows platforms. The company also said it co-developed NDMP with Network Appliance as an optimum means to protect and recover information on network storage systems.
Now with NetWorker 6.2, Legato said IT departments have the flexibility of using Windows NT, Windows 2000, Unix or Linux backup servers to protect NAS. Information can be backed up locally, to tape storage attached to other NAS devices, to Unix-attached libraries, or to NDMP enabled tape libraries. The company also said NetWorker’s Direct Access Restore (DAR) capability also eliminates the need to scan tapes during recovery by pinpointing file locations, dramatically reducing time to recovery.
