Lucent Technologies today announced an expanded alliance with EMC Corporation to offer improved billing for storage solutions to help service providers capture additional business.
According to the companies, Lucent will integrate its Kenan(R) IP (Internet protocol) Services Software — which includes billing, web-based customer care, mediation and revenue assurance software — with EMC’s programming interfaces for tracking and managing storage allocation. Integration is aimed at allowing managed service providers, network service providers and Internet service providers to monitor their customers’ use of storage and then tailor services to meet the specific needs of each customer.
“The expansion of our alliance with Lucent will enable us to bring advanced storage asset management and billing to mutual customers,” said Bill Nelson, senior vice president of Content and Information Center Markets, EMC Corporation. “With the increased growth of value-added storage services, the integration of Kenan products with EMC technology will offer service providers a simple software solution that captures and bills actual storage resource usage by an individual subscriber.”
“The ability to deliver and bill for storage usage based on customized, detailed and business-specific metrics will create significant advantages for service providers,” said Mark Friedman, vice president of marketing for Lucent’s Billing and Customer Care business. “The proven strength and flexibility of our Kenan IP Services Software combined with EMC’s leading information storage software will enable IP service providers to leverage billing and customer care storage solutions as a competitive differentiator today and into the future.”
