Mellanox Ships Over Ten Thousand InfiniBand Ports

Mellanox Technologies, Ltd., a provider of InfiniBand(SM) silicon, today announced that the company has shipped more than ten thousand InfiniBand ports, which exceeds its target for 2001 and comes less than 10 months after Mellanox’s first customer shipments.

The port shipment figure includes both InfiniBridge(TM) and InfiniScale(TM) channel adapters and switches supporting both 1X (2.5Gb/s) and 4X (10Gb/s) links. Shipments to more than 60 customers establish both InfiniBridge and InfiniScale as the leading InfiniBand silicon product families.

“InfiniBand technology is delivering true 10Gb/s transport capabilities today, offering greater performance and reliability for storage, communications and computing applications in the data center at a fraction of the cost of other 10Gb/s technologies,” said Dave Sheffler, Mellanox Technologies, vice president of Worldwide Sales. “IDC projects the number of InfiniBand ports for server applications alone to grow from nearly 330 thousand ports in 2002 to more than 6.8 million ports in 2005. Mellanox is pleased that this adoption cycle is on track and that its InfiniBridge and InfiniScale silicon are taking leading roles in this process.”
