Network Appliance Extends Content Delivery Network Solutions

Network-attached data access and content delivery vendor Network Appliance, Inc. today announced its next generation of content delivery network (CDN) solutions with enterprise functionality, new enterprise CDN packages, and value-added partnerships designed for global enterprise deployments.

The solutions and partnerships Network Appliance announced today include two enterprise CDN solution packages that include NetApp(R) storage, NetCache(TM) content delivery solutions and ContentDirector(TM) and ContentReporter(TM) software. The company says these applications enable complete CDN functionality including content storage, management, delivery, and reporting.

Network Appliance also announced a collaboration with RealNetworks, whereby both companies will market a variety of streaming applications based on RealNetworks(R) streaming media format; the newest version of NetCache software — NetCache 5.1 — which offers expanded enterprise functionality including increased bandwidth management and advanced content distribution technologies; as well as a collaboration with Widevine Technologies that enables the industry’s first encrypted edge delivery of streaming media.

“Today, Network Appliance is leveraging our center to edge expertise in global deployments for customers including Deutsche Telekom and Vignette and combining that expertise with advanced enterprise functionality and new partnerships. This approach now offers customers the most comprehensive and easy-to-deploy enterprise solutions available,” commented Network Appliance CEO Dan Warmenhoven.

Network Appliance CDN solutions are already being deployed by global enterprises. Applications including document dissemination (e.g., pdf, ppt, doc, etc.) of mission-critical business analysis and sales and marketing collateral, and streaming media for eLearning and corporate communications are among two of the most popular applications for enterprise CDNs.
