Network Appliance, Inc. , a NAS provider, today announced a new product family called NearStore that it said is a centralized rapid recovery and backup consolidation solution for the enterprise.

Network Appliance said the NearStore product family leverages Network Appliance Data ONTAP technology and SnapMirror and DataFabric Manager software to allow products in the family to scale up to nearly 100TB. The company said NearStore systems are ideal complements to primary storage solutions, streamlining backups to tape and enabling near-instantaneous data recovery. The large capacity of NearStore solutions is also designed to help storage administrators consolidate management of multiple recovery and backup solutions onto fewer systems, reducing administration time.

In related news, Network Appliance expanded its storage product line by introducing the NetApp F87 workgroup filer.

Network Appliance said the F87 offers workgroup solutions for software development, data consolidation, and collaborative applications such as Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange, and other messaging applications.
