Quantum Corporation subsidiary Snap Appliances, Inc., a network attached storage (NAS) company, today introduced the Snap Server ES12(TM), a mid-range NAS appliance aimed at enterprise-class departments and workgroups, service providers, educational institutions and large government agencies.
According to Snap, Snap Server ES12(TM) will offer customers a more cost-effective alternative to large NT-class servers and SCSI-Attached RAID.
Jim Schraith, chairman and CEO of Snap Appliances said, “The new Snap Server ES12 will provide all of the benefits of our Snap Server family along with redundant and hot-swap features that departments, larger workgroups and service providers need in business-critical storage applicationswith a price point of under $25,000, it will give IT professionals a high capacity, high availability file-serving solution designed to be easier to set-up and maintain than SCSI-Attached RAID, yet also provides lower total cost of ownership than large NT or UNIX servers.”
Features of the Snap Server ES12 include a 900GB total capacity (750GB available in a RAID 5 configuration), a 3U (5.25-inches) form factor that fits into a standard 19-inch rack, hot swappable hard drives, redundant and hot-swappable fans and power supplies, RAID 5, 1 and 0 support, 10/100/Gigabit Ethernet (Auto-sensing), cross platform file sharing support (Windows, Linux, UNIX, NetWare, and Macintosh), file and directory level security integration, as well as Remote monitoring and management through Web-based GUI or through SNMP.
