Pacific Internet , an Asian Internet service provider has formed a strategic partnership with Hitachi Data Systems to jointly launch an Internet Backup Service (IBS. The service launched today is aimed at delivering value-added data storage services.

According to the companies, IBS is a complete client/server software solution that utilizes fully encrypted and password protected backup technology. Data is encrypted using a 112-bit private encryption key and compressed before transmission over the Internet. The data is also stored encrypted to ensure the highest levels of security. This service is a simpler, quicker and less expensive solution for companies to backup and restore data in the event of hacking, virus attacks, hard drive failures or PC thefts.

Mr David Lunn, Hitachi Data Systems’s Director of Business Development for Asia South, said: “Hitachi Data Systems has always been at the forefront in storage technology and we are very excited to be collaborating with Pacific Internet, a company which believes in offering its customers the best Internet storage solutions available. In these days of PC vulnerability, data backup has become a necessity whether you are a home or corporate user. IBS is developed to offer a convenient and cost effective alternative to users seeking to address their storage needs. ”

Mr Sui Wee Chong, Director of the Corporate Business Group of Pacific Internet Singapore, said: “Businesses looking to outsource this function will want to work with reliable providers who have an established reputation in the market and this is the value proposition that PacNet and Hitachi can offer to these customers. This strategic partnership enables both companies to leverage on each other’s strengths; with Hitachi’s track record in data storage technology and PacNet’s expertise in providing Internet service, customers can look forward to a quality solution scalable to suit their needs. “
