Raidtec Corporation today announced a new product called SNAZ(R) FC, which it says merges network attached storage (NAS) and storage area network (SAN) technologies by leveraging the features and performance of a SAN with the ease and convenience of a NAS product.
According to Raidtec, SNAZ FC is a file server that resides between the local area network (LAN) and a storage area network (SAN). From the LAN side, SNAZ FC appears as a NAS device, serving multi-protocol files to heterogeneous clients, while its storage resides on the SAN.
Raidtec says key Benefits of SNAZ FC include the ability to install Terabytes in minutes, no OS licensing, support for Windows and Unix clients simultaneously, as well as bundled RAID 0,1,10,5 & tape backup software included.

In related new, Raidtec Corporation today announced the release of SNAZ(R) R6, 2U Rack mount filer as part of the company’s new SNAZ family of products.
Raidtec’s SNAZ R6 enables organizations to add high-performance, NAS-direct Ethernet attached SCSI based storage now, and expand capacity and connectivity with a simple upgrade into a Fibre Channel SAN when ready. The economical SNAZ R6 affords the lowest cost-per-MB in its class to add SCSI and Fibre Channel SAN capable NAS storage.
SNAZ R6 is a highly tuned file server that plugs directly into an Ethernet switch on the Local Area Network (LAN). It serves multi-protocol files to heterogeneous clients, with up to 430GB of local hot swap RAID protected storage. The capacity can be increased when desired by adding Raidtec’s Fibre Channel SAN adaptor. Adding SAN connectivity allows capacity to scale to multiple Terabytes.
