SanDisk Introduces 1-Gigabyte CompactFlash Card

SanDisk Corporation today introduced a 1-Gigabyte (GB) CompactFlash(TM) (CF) memory card.

The company said the new high-capacity card will typically be able to store, for example, more than 1000 digital images, more than 20 hours of digital music or several hours of video.

Nelson Chan, senior vice president and general manager of SanDisk’s retail business unit, said, “Introducing a 1GB CompactFlash card in the Type I format is a technological breakthrough for SanDisk, the company that introduced the CompactFlash card. With a gigabyte of storage capacity, consumers will be able to store extended movie clips in the latest generation of digital cameras that offer this exciting new feature. These cards demonstrate how rapidly flash technology is moving forward and provide the first indication of how SanDisk’s technology will begin to displace recording tapes and disks in future consumer audio and video products.”

The 1GB SanDisk CompactFlash card is expected to be available at retail in Q1 2002. The card is expected to sell for under $800.
