CONTEC Microelectronics USA Inc. this week announced 2.5″ and 3.5″ IDE Silicon Disk Drives for use with Windows, Linux or DOS applications.
According to CONTEC, Silicon Disk Drives (SDDs) are a seamless replacement to standard magnetic IDE hard drives and are ideal for use in embedded, industrial or rugged mobile applications where data integrity, high shock resistance or low power consumption are required. With drive capacities of 1GB, 512MB, 320MB, 64MB and 32MB no operating system is too large, the company said.
“One of the key issues in the past was that SDD storage capacities were to small for many operating systems and applications,” says Shawn Lance, Director of Sales and Marketing, CONTEC Microelectronics USA, Inc. “The high demand for solid state memory has also brought the prices down significantly so justification becomes easier for engineers who have been searching for an economical way to protect their data,” adds Lance.
The company said the 2.5″ and 3.5″ IDE design allows users to quickly swap-out their current hard drive for a stable non-volatile device. Flash storage drives contain no moving parts and meet 1,000G’s of operational shock rating which is the approximate equivalent to an eight foot drop.
