Sistina, Western Scientific Partner

Jun 20, 2001

Storage-software developer Sistina Software and networking-product provider Western Scientific are teaming to provide certified storage clustering solutions for applications specific to the Linux market.

This partnership designates Western Scientific as the first reseller of Sistina’s Global File System (GFS), officials said. Sistina’s GFS is a clustered file system for Linux that allows multiple servers on a storage area network (SAN) to have read/write access to a single file system on the shared SAN devices.

Additionally, GFS features many high availability file system components such as journaling and failover capabilities, while providing affordable cluster configurations for companies that are running Linux applications.

Western Scientific will embed GFS on a KiloCluster, which dramatically reduces computational processing time in a parallel computing environment by providing the power of up to thousands of computers working in unison, officials said.

“Nearly any application can benefit from a shared cluster of storage resources using GFS. The ability for a bank of servers to utilize a common storage pool increases performance while reducing administrative cost,” said David Jensen, senior sales engineer and SAN specialist for Western Scientific, in a statement.

Sistina Software and Western Scientific will demonstrate GFS running on a KiloCluster at Streaming Media West 2001, today through Friday.
