Spirent Communications(TM) today introduced the Gigabit Ethernet Network Impairment Emulator (GENIE), a tool it said will enable developers to effectively test products and applications aimed at storage area networks (SANs).
According to the company, GENIE, running on the award-winning Adtech AX/4000 platform, is designed to empower SAN application developers and network equipment manufacturers, as well as developers working in e-commerce, Virtual Private Networks and Application Service Providers (ASPs).
“GENIE will provide developers with a cost effective, controlled and repeatable test environment — reducing the amount of time and money spent on cumbersome tests over live networks,” said Ken Hensarling, senior director of product marketing, Spirent Communications, Adtech Division. “The burgeoning SAN market will be among the best served by the capabilities of the GENIE product — where performance is critical.”
Spirent’s GENIE can be used with the traffic generation, analysis, capture and decode capabilities provided by Spirent’s Adtech AX/4000 Broadband Test System. Spirent said GENIE is the newest addition to a line of network impairment emulation products, which currently provide the ability to emulate “real world” network impairments on ATM, Ethernet, IP, SONET and other transport technologies.
