This is why vendors such as StorageTek are changing up their global services
StorageTek has broken down its global services organization into five practice areas to make the company more nimble at handling the information lifecycle management (ILM) strategies of customers.
The new practices are services for implementation and education, data centers, storage assessment, business continuity and disaster recovery services and remote managed services. The Louisville, Colo., company also announced a storage appraisal service to help customers get a handle on capacity needs and cost.
Rejiggering services businesses is a trendy chore for high-tech companies looking to adapt to the changing needs of customers. In the storage segment, clients have been telling vendors they need solutions to help
meet corporate governance mandates for record retention and retrieval.
IT vendors such as StorageTek, EMC , IBM
,
HP and others have responded with a slew of products,
promising to help customers set up ILM systems capable of managing
information from its inception until its disposal.
units to better meet the needs of their clients’ new strategies. EMC is
expected to address ILM with new services next week.
Implementation and education services cover product deployment, including
planning/assessment and configuration through system verification testing.
Data center services provide relocation, remodeling and design as well as
media and asset management.
Storage assessment services are geared to help customers boost the capacity,
backup and recovery of their storage gear. Business continuity and disaster
recovery services assess recovery timelines and financial impacts for each
business function and application. Lastly, remote managed storage services
help clients remotely monitor and manage storage systems.
The new services complement StorageTek’s TekCare Support Services and
Enterprise Support Services (ESS), designed to support a customer’s
StorageTek solution.
Separately, StorageTek’s storage appraisal service can help customers
pinpoint identify and solve problems before they occur, which in turn pares
the risks associated with system downtime and data loss.
