StorageTek (Storage Technology Corp.) has successfully completed interoperability testing of ADVA Optical Networking Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) devices to extend backup and recovery solutions, including the StorageTek StorageNet(R) 6000 (SN6000) storage domain manager. The product validation is the latest step by StorageTek to enable customers to span the distance between remote data centers and vaulting facilities for a more robust disaster recovery solution.

ADVA’s solution empowers StorageTek customers to share remote tape assets in a heterogeneous environment with Virtual Transport Manager (VTM) on the SN6000, extending a customer’s storage network beyond the reach of Fibre Channel capabilities. StorageTek interoperability testing includes the ADVA Optical FSP-II and FSP 2000 and 3000 DWDM systems.

“Optical networking is proving to be a significant enabler to expand the market for storage networking applications. Enterprises are now able to have new high-availability, fault-tolerant solutions at a fraction of the cost when compared to traditional alternatives,” stated Brian P. McCann, chief marketing and strategy officer at ADVA Optical Networking.

First unveiled in October 2000, the SN6000/VTM places the intelligence of virtualization in the storage network to free application servers from storage management overhead, enabling true open storage networks. The SN6000/VTM empowers enterprise customers with superior manageability, performance and scalability in their open system data centers and enables fast and reliable data backup and recovery of critical applications.
