StorageTek Unveils Tape Drive

StorageTek(R) (Storage Technology Corp.) today announced the availability of the StorageTek T9840B tape drive, which it said nearly doubles the speed of the StorageTek 9840 tape drive.

The company said it is equipped with the industry’s first 2Gb fabric aware, Fibre Channel interface to fully exploits the latest 200MB per second SAN infrastructures and the most popular Fibre Channel hardware components.


The T9840B tape drive offers a 19MB per second uncompressed data transfer rate and random access to data in less than 12 seconds. It is available immediately worldwide with the following interface options: The 2Gb Fibre Channel interface sells for approximately $38,000, the ESCON interface sells for approximately $34,400 and the SCSI interface sells for approximately $33,000. All prices are listed in U.S. dollars.
