Sun Microsystems and VERITAS Partner on Backup

Sun Microsystems and VERITAS Software Corporation today announced an integrated backup and recovery solution for small businesses and workgroups. The solution combines either the Sun StorEdge(TM) L20 tape library or the Sun StorEdge L9 tape autoloader with VERITAS NetBackup BusinesServer.

“Data is an essential business asset for our workgroup customers, and solutions designed to protect this data must extend, not consume, our customers’ limited resources,” said Bill Groth, director of product marketing, Sun, Network Storage. “Combined with our Sun StorEdge L20 and L9 tape drive products, VERITAS NetBackup BusinesServer addresses the specific needs of the workgroup market and enables us to provide our customers with a complete, affordable, easy-to-implement solution.”

Sun is now directly offering VERITAS NetBackup BusinesServer, available as a standalone solution, or packaged with either the Sun StorEdge L20 tape library or the Sun StorEdge L9 tape autoloader. The Sun StorEdge L20 and NetBackup BusinesServer package offers 2 DLT8000 tape drives, 20 cartridges and is an ideal solution for customers doing less than 40 GB of backup daily and maintaining a 15-day rotation. The Sun StorEdge L9 and NetBackup BusinesServer package includes a DLT8000 tape drive with nine cartridges into a small footprint desktop or optional rackmount autoloader, delivering what Sun says is fast, simple and unattended backups with more than 360 gigabytes of native storage capacity.

The Sun StorEdge L20 and VERITAS NetBackup BusinesServer is currently available from Sun Microsystems at a U.S. suggested retail price $24,900. The Sun StorEdge L9 and VERITAS NetBackup BusinesServer package is also currently available from Sun Microsystems at a U.S. suggested retail price of $9,460.
