Think Tank Formed for the Data Center Industry

Mar 16, 2001

AFCOM, an association for data center professionals, today announced the formation of the Data Center Institute.

According to AFCOM, the Data Center Institute is to serve as a forum to provide leadership and direction for the data center industry in areas such as enterprise servers, application and Internet services providers, storage area networks and web-hosting organizations.

AFCOM plans on the Data Center Institute providing relevant industry data about the issues critical to technology adoption in large enterprises, as well as management strategies. It will also serve as an information repository for all data center related issues.

“Data centers are constantly challenged by the need to redefine their role in the new e-business environment,” said Leonard Eckhaus, President of AFCOM. “We realize that the time has come to create a forum for users and vendors to share their views and attempt to develop a consensus on how to respond to the economic and technology changes.”

AFCOM said DCI board members are to be drawn from organizations such as Allen Systems Group, BMC, Computer Associates, Cooper Tools, Imation, Landmark Systems Corporation, and Navy Federal Credit Union.
