IBM subsidiary Tivoli Systems Inc. and and McDATA(R) Corporation this week announced a LAN-free enterprise-to-edge storage solution, based on Tivoli’s highly reliable Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) software and McDATA’s family of industry-leading directors and switches.

“With McDATA’s Systems Integration Lab joining in this effort with our own integration labs, the testing behind this solution represents the industry’s most advanced system integration,” said Paul Ellis, director of storage marketing, Tivoli Enterprise Management Solutions. “As a result, we are now able to offer a highly reliable, highly scalable and highly interoperable solution that allows for quick, easy and cost-effective storage backup.”

According to the companies, the pre-configured appliance frees up LAN resources and eliminates interoperability, set up and configuration concerns that arise when considering new solutions. The product is designed to scale a full range of SAN enterprise backup environments and needs. The companies claim that users have the ability to implement the latest in storage networking backup technology and the flexibility to leverage McDATA’s ED-6064 and ED-5000 Directors, ES-3032 and ES 3016 department switches, ES-1000 loop switches, host bus adapters (HBAs) and routers with Tivoli’s TSM software.
