Topio yesterday announced its entrance into the business continuity marketplace with what it says is a new approach to enterprise-class data replication. The company, which was formed by a seasoned team of enterprise storage and data replication experts including Yoram Novick and Eric Herzog said the new product is driven by the market need for cost effective, consistent, open, and scalable data replication.

The company unveiled its first product, SANSafe, which enables system-wide disaster recovery over long distance. According to the company, SANSafe offers a unique solution for effective disaster recovery program implementation, including system-wide data consistency, support for heterogeneous SAN environments, storage subsystems, direct-attached storage (DAS), and storage virtualization schemes exploiting all networking environments, especially IP, and a lower total cost of ownership (TCO). The solution also offers minimization of the performance degradation usually associated with disaster recovery, multi-site support, and simple and automated disaster recovery management.

“We established Topio because we had seen the frustration enterprise business continuity planners and IT professionals experienced with expensive, proprietary and complex data replication solutions that do not deliver on the promise of data consistency and data reliability, nor support a truly heterogeneous environment,” said Yoram Novick, founder and CEO of Topio. “Our goal is to deliver data replication and disaster recovery solutions that overcome these critical limitations, while providing long distance capability and a significant reduction in disaster recovery Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).”

“Customers today are asking for replication and disaster recovery solutions that are not limited to a single vendor’s products. Topio’s design for system-wide data replication across multiple hardware and software platforms promises to deliver consistent disaster recovery without vendor lock-in,” said Bill North, Storage Software Research Director for IDC. “Topio is positioned to help meet the growing demand for long-distance data replication and recovery for heterogeneous environments.”
