The new release of Illumina, which runs on both the new 1200 and the existing 1100 NAS appliance, offers enhanced functionality for digital imaging and security applications, as well as an expanded feature set for enterprise environments. Lunar Flare NAS empowers users to add storage with no downtime, no user interruption and nearly effortless administration.
“Lunar Flare NAS is an ideal storage solution for industries that generate large amounts of data, but don’t have a trained IS staff to manage it,” commented Joan Wrabetz, President and CEO, Tricord Systems. “The product’s newly released support for MacIntosh clients, larger capacity 1200 appliance, ability to handle larger file sizes, high-performance backup, and enhanced performance are designed specifically to meet the needs of industries such as digital imaging and security/surveillance, among others. What’s more, the expanded enterprise support features of Lunar Flare NAS make it an attractive solution for larger corporate departments and rapidly expanding e-businesses that need to keep storage management and equipment costs under control.”
Product enhancements that enable Lunar Flare NAS to better address the requirements of data-intensive applications, such as digital imaging and security/surveillance, include enhanced performance — aspects of performance have been increased by 50% with this new release. Lunar Flare NAS also provides MacIntosh support, enabling AppleTalk clients to share files on the cluster that have been designated for Mac access. The Lunar Flare NAS 1200 offers 240 gigabytes of raw capacity per appliance, allowing a cluster of 16 appliances to scale up to 3.8 terabytes. In addition, the cluster can now handle large files, up to 208 GBs on a 16-appliance cluster.
Both models of the Lunar Flare NAS appliance include Tricord’s patented Illumina software, which allows multiple Lunar Flare NAS appliances to aggregate together as a cluster, managed as a single resource. This unique solution solves critical storage management problems for IS staff by eliminating many of the management tasks associated with managing and growing storage systems. The Illumina architecture also enables innovative fault tolerance features and excellent performance, due to the increased processing power, memory, and capacity that becomes available as new appliances are added to the cluster.
List price for Lunar Flare NAS starts at $4,999 and includes a 1-year warranty and service contract. The product offers customers scalability, fault tolerance, and ease of management for as low as 3 cents per MB. Raw capacity per appliance ranges from 135 GBs for the 1100 model to 240 GBs for the 1200 model. Both the 1100 and the 1200 are available immediately. Tricord offers a popular “no-risk evaluation” program that allows qualified customers to try the product for a limited time with no cost or obligation.
