Uninterruptible Power Protection for StorageTekTape Libraries

StorageTek(R) and American Power have partnered to offer an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) with full AC redundancy for the StorageTek L180 and L700 tape libraries. The UPS assists StorageTek customers with L180 and L700 tape libraries in maintaining continuous operation, redundant power protection, data integrity and availability in the event of a power disruption.

Ian Stewart, StorageTek director of Product Marketing, said, “Power failure is the primary cause of unscheduled downtime for more than 72 percent of U.S. corporations. In joining with APC, StorageTek is further demonstrating its commitment to providing customers with complete protection of their mission-critical data.”

StorageTek’s UPS bundle mounts internally to the library and includes two APC Smart-UPS(R) units and an APC Redundant AC Switch. An AC source failure causes the switch to transfer the load to the redundant UPS automatically; the UPS continues to power the tape library system without interruption. The dual UPSs and redundant AC Power provide failover protection and help protect the data stored in the L180 or L700 tape library.

The StorageTek UPS bundle also includes APC’s Web/SNMP Management Card, which allows Network operators to identify potential problems quickly and manage APC devices via Web browsers and industry-leading network management platforms.
