UTC Selects VERITAS to Protect Global Enterprise

VERITAS Software Corporation today announced that United Technologies Corporation has chosen VERITAS NetBackup DataCenter(TM) to provide comprehensive data backup and recovery across United Technology Corporation’s (UTC) six operating companies. UTC’s information systems consultant, Computer Science Corp., recommended VERITAS Software in this multi-million dollar deal and will execute the standardization of UTC’s North American data centers and affiliated sites. UTC’s companies are Pratt & Whitney, Hamilton Sundstrand, Sikorsky Aircraft, Carrier, Otis Elevator and UTC Fuel Cells.

“One of UTC’s primary objectives for 2002 is to unify our data protection and disaster recovery infrastructure,” said John Doucette, vice president of e-business and chief information officer for UTC. “An initial implementation in our Sikorsky division convinced us that VERITAS NetBackup could efficiently manage our cross-platform storage needs.”

UTC’s data centers currently use a variety of point products for backup and management services, and run Windows NT and UNIX variants. As a complete platform-independent solution, VERITAS NetBackup DataCenter allows UTC to adopt a standard data protection framework across 48 data centers in North America. Moreover, VERITAS Software gives UTC centralized control over all of their data centers, and the flexibility to adapt to future needs.

“UTC wanted a hardware and operating system-independent storage software solution to meet its data protection objectives — one that keeps costs down,” said Nick Wilkinson, vice president and global account executive for CSC. “CSC recommended VERITAS NetBackup because it is an integrated solution that manages multi-platform environments. It also provides the performance and scalability necessary to accommodate anticipated growth.”
