VA Linux Releases NAS Appliance

VA Linux Systems Inc. began shipping its 9450 NAS appliance, the second network-attached storage appliance from VA Linux.

According to VA Linux, the 9450 NAS delivers a convenient, cost-effective solution for online data archiving, application server storage, and shared data storage across heterogeneous corporate networks.

The VA Linux 9450 NAS appliance offers file sharing across multiple platforms–Linux(R), UNIX(R), Microsoft(R) Windows(R) and Mac(R) OS–enabling transparent file access in heterogeneous network environments such as corporate IT departments and workgroups. By including support for NFS, CIFS/SMB, Appletalk and HTTP, the VA NetAttach (VANA) operating environment helps customers avoid paying large license fees for additional protocols and allows flexibility when consolidating data storage.

Like other VA Linux appliances, the 9450 NAS provides a Web-based management interface for setup, management and expansion. VANA management features include the Global Status Monitor, which provides customers with an easy way to centrally manage VA Linux NAS appliances attached to their networks. The built-in “phone home” feature notifies the VA Linux Alert Monitoring Center, as well as customer sites, at the first sign of possible problems.

Pricing for the VA Linux 9450 NAS begins at less than $30,000.
