VERITAS Software is now offering an integrated backup and recovery solution for “Windows Powered” server appliances, including network attached storage (NAS) appliances.
VERITAS said its Backup Exec for Windows Powered Server Appliances leverages the Web-based management user interface (UI) in Windows Powered server appliances, resulting in an easy-to-use backup and recovery solution. Dell will be the first company to integrate this new edition of VERITAS Backup Exec with its PowerVault NAS servers.
“Windows-based NAS devices are taking the market by storm. They are inexpensive, easy to install and easy to manage, but they need a solid backup and recovery product to be a complete solution,” said Arun Taneja, senior analyst, Enterprise Storage Group. “With the support of VERITAS Backup Exec, the customer gets a premier backup solution optimized for the NAS environment.”
According to the company, the incorporation of VERITAS Backup Exec into the Web-based management UI in Windows Powered devices makes it easier and quicker to deploy and manage self-contained data protection solutions for Windows Powered server appliances, including NAS devices. The UI framework enables administrators to back up and recover NAS data via high-performance disk, direct attached tape devices, or even shared tape devices deployed within a storage area network (SAN), all from a centralized console.
