Veritas Rolls Out New High-Availability Software

Veritas Software Corp. today unveiled its next-generation clustering software technology, Veritas Cluster Server 2.0, with new workload management features designed to reduce the cost and complexity of deploying and managing large clusters of servers.

Supporting the industry’s widest array of operating systems and hardware platforms, Veritas Cluster Server 2.0 enables organizations to efficiently manage the performance and availability of large server environments using fewer IT resources.

New intelligent workload management capabilities in Veritas Cluster Server 2.0 allow companies to set up procedures to eliminate downtime and to optimize application workload across servers. Accessed from a centralized console that provides a common management interface across diverse platforms, these new capabilities help companies reduce costs by streamlining administrative tasks and optimizing the use of existing servers and applications.

Veritas Cluster Server also uniquely supports cluster configurations of up to 32 servers, making it easier for companies to scale computing resources for large clustering applications such as Web services, officials said.

Additionally, Veritas Cluster Server 2.0 is tightly integrated with Veritas Global Cluster Manager and Veritas Volume Replicator(TM) as part of a complete disaster recovery solution. These products work together to maintain business operations and access to critical applications when data centers are migrated to remote locations for disaster recovery purposes.

Veritas Cluster Server 2.0 is available immediately, with pricing starting at $6,000 per server. In addition to supporting UNIX and Windows operating system platforms, Veritas Cluster Server works with the widest selection of application software in the industry, including Oracle, Sybase, and DB2.
