Appshop Debuts Wireless Access to Oracle E-Business

Aug 31, 2001

Appshop Inc., the largest independent Oracle (Nasdaq:ORCL) ASP, Wednesday (August 29) announced the commercial availability of its Mobile Oracle E-Business Suite, a new service that enables wireless subscribers on various carrier networks to securely access their enterprise Oracle data.

“Appshop has built a strong reputation in the industry for providing unrivaled customer service in support of Oracle applications. Our new wireless offering is one more demonstration of our commitment to customer care,” said Ravi Kulasekaran, CEO of Appshop. “We are very pleased with the beta test results and have received numerous requests from customers anxiously awaiting the new wireless service.”

Using a “UnifiedXML wireless switch,” Appshop’s new wireless capability will enable customers to gain secure access to their Oracle applications through a variety of wireless devices, including PDAs, two-way messaging devices, one-way pagers and WAP phones.

Oracle’s productivity-enhancing E-Business applications, such as customer relationship management, e-commerce, enterprise resource planning, finance, human resources, manufacturing, marketing, product development, supply chain management and transportation, are now easily accessible to users in the field and away from the office through their existing mobile devices.

The new wireless offering not only offers the standard graphical user interface, but can also be enhanced with voice and audio capabilities for easier data interaction while on the move. The system ensures security by using 128-bit encryption technology, and users access the application via a unique user name and password, affording multi-level authentication.

“McData began beta testing the new wireless service in March and has since experienced better customer support and problem resolution for field sales and service people, real-time business intelligence for its busy executives and a more efficient communication and approval process for everything from purchases to vacation schedules,” said Mike Curry, vice president of sales, Appshop.

Appshop is an Oracle Certified Solution Partner headquartered in Fremont, Calif., with regional offices across the U.S. and subsidiaries in Bangalore, India and Zhuhai, China.
