Tarantella Inc. and Firstnet Services Ltd., a leading provider of Internet solutions for the business market, have announced that Tarantella Enterprise 3 enterprise network infrastructure software has been selected to deliver Firstnet’s ASP service — a fully outsourced, end-to-end trading solution.

Tarantella Enterprise 3 software is designed to help ASPs, data centers and infrastructure providers get to market faster, deliver more applications and manage systems and subscribers more efficiently.

Firstnet made the decision to switch from Citrix MetaFrame to Tarantella Enterprise 3 software, as “It is much better suited to the ASP market,” according to Dominic Marrocco, chief executive of Firstnet.

“We considered products from several alternative vendors before deciding on the Tarantella solution,” Marrocco said. “Tarantella software allows applications based on any platform — mainframe, Windows, Java, AS/400, Linux, or UNIX — to be delivered securely over the Internet, for access on any client device through a standard web browser.”

Tarantella Enterprise 3 software was as much as four times faster than other products we tested, and twice as fast as its closest competitor, Marrocco said. But what really clinched it for Firstnet was Tarantella’s scalability, non-invasive architecture and its capacity for clustering, as well as its range of auditing and billing tools, he said.

Tarantella has a reputation within the industry for supplying innovative, easy-to-implement software, and this played a large part in Firstnet’s deliberations. According to Marrocco, “The need to choose a reputable supplier with a proven track record was as important to us as software functionality.”

Charles Stewart, vice president of European sales for Tarantella is delighted with Firstnet’s endorsement. “Industry and market analysts predict strong, sustained growth of the European ASP market. Against this backdrop our software was designed to help ASPs work better, enabling employees, customers and suppliers to come together more effectively. We’re very pleased that an ASP of Firstnet’s caliber has recognized that the Tarantella software has a competitive edge and adds real value to their service.”

Tarantella provides enterprise network infrastructure software to manage and deliver applications, information and services over public and private networks. Tarantella Enterprise 3 software transparently provides managed, web-based access to corporate applications from network clients anywhere in the world. Tarantella Enterprise 3 software is a scalable, reliable and secure solution that does not require changes to applications or application servers.
