iPlanet Launches $20m xSP Program

Sun-Netscape alliance iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions Monday (Oct 30) introduced the iPlanet Service Provider Program, enabling service providers (xSPs) to accelerate time to service, extend market reach and drive incremental revenue. Charter members include Center 7, EpicEdge, KPN and Vivao.

The iPlanet Service Provider program includes active partnering in business planning; revenue sharing; progressive pricing models; generous co-op marketing funding; customized go-to-market initiatives and a tailored service provider product portfolio. At the highest level this multi-tiered program provides dedicated marketing managers to work with service providers to create customized go-to-market strategies and initiatives, which are supported by both revenue and marketing commitments. iPlanet also offers qualified service providers the ability to optimize their cash flow with “pay-as-you-grow” transaction and subscription-based pricing structures.

“In 2001, we expect to invest over $20 million in support of our service provider program members,” said Marge Breya, iPlanet chief marketing officer. “These partners span organizations from innovative start-ups like EpicEdge to service providers for ASPs like Center7 to established leaders like KPN and Vivao. As the industry’s leading software platform provider to service providers, we’re putting our money where our customers’ business is going.”

It runs on top of the traditional OS and hardware base and is designed to support a multitude of services, content and applications. iPlanet also unveiled this week its Intelligent Communications Platform, an open, extensible software platform designed to enable the rapid delivery of communication and collaboration services over converged voice, wireline and wireless networks.

The new platform begins with the latest versions of iPlanet’s Messaging Server, Calendar Server, Wireless Server and Directory Server. It then exposes a broad range of open, extensible interfaces allowing xSPs, telcos and enterprises to develop and deliver new services.

A service provider building on the iPlanet Intelligent Communications Platform, for example, could quickly and efficiently introduce new value-added services that automatically notify cell phone subscribers when an Internet auction of interest opens, send a page when a meeting is added to their calendar or turn on a phone message light when an urgent email arrives. Platform services offered include Wireless Access, Notification, Community Services, Multiple Media Access, and Message Routing and Conversion Services.
