Netcom Adds to E-Commerce Services

Sep 10, 1998

Netcom On-Line
Communication Services, Inc.
said it is expanding its Web hosting line of products by adding new electronic commerce software offerings for customers.

ShopSite Manager Lite is a storefront designed to give all Netcom hosting customers the ability to build and maintain a catalog of 25 products to sell over the Internet. Features include automatic payment calculations, as well as a secure shopping basket with encrypted payment information, foreign language support, e-mail notification of arriving orders and electronic receipts issued to shoppers, the company stated.

In addition to Manager Lite, Netcom also released updated versions of
ShopSite Manager inventory and database software, and Pro, a tracking
program. The add-on features have a one-time set-up fee of $495 or $1295, respectively.

These two versions are included in Netcom’s Commerce and Commerce Premium packages, the company’s higher-end Web hosting solutions.

The ShopSite family of products is produced by Open Market Inc.

“With more than $5 billion annually spent on Internet purchases, adding
electronic commerce capabilities to a Web site is a natural extension for
businesses who want to use the Web to generate revenue,” said Doug Falk,
senior vice president of sales for Netcom. “Offering a Web site enhanced
with E-commerce, positions
individual professionals and small- to medium-sized businesses to realize
these very real revenue opportunities.”

The Netcom announcement follows news yesterday that Microsoft will combine with Ernst & Young to deliver a joint solution for companies interested in developing e-commerce applications.

Netcom is a wholly owned subsidiary of ICG Communications,
Inc.
