New Critical Path VP Going South

It’s legal problems behind it, Critical Path Thursday moved forward by naming Bill Scott as vice president of its Latin America operations.

A former Latin American VP for InfoSpace, Inc. , Scott will lead sales efforts in the region – where Critical Path already powers more than 20 million e-mail boxes.

“Adding Bill to our leadership team will help Critical Path maintain its momentum in Latin America and extend its position as a global leader in Internet communications,” said Critical Path vice president and general manager, Americas Christopher LaBruna. “Latin America presents a tremendous market opportunity for Critical Path — the addressable wireless market alone could top roughly $270 million by 2004 according to Yankee Group. Bill is the right choice to build a successful organization for Critical Path in Latin America.”

In addition to selling Critical Path’s messaging and identity management solutions to customers in the area, Scott will seek to expand relationships with channel partners and service providers.

San Francisco-based Critical Path already has relationships with Latin American service providers and telcos such as Globo and Embratel, as well as leading cable provider TVA/Ajato and the Bradesco bank, which are deploying Critical Path’s messaging services for Web and wireless applications.

The wireless messaging and e-mail provider licenses and outsources its Internet communications software to small and mid-sized businesses and service providers. Its corporate customers include British Telecom, Worldcom, Dupont, Circuit City and Gymboree.
