In what is being called “the next generation
backbone,” iBEAM Broadcasting plans to roll out a satellite-based service
for Internet access providers at the ISPcon show in San Jose.

The company is in negotiation with a number of leading content providers
who will provide direct feeds to the satellite uplink. The downlink will be
sent to Internet Service Providers who can resell the service to their
customers. Streaming multimedia content is expected to the most popular
service, but any form of Internet content can be moved across the network.

The iBEAM service will be announced at a Tuesday press conference at the
San Jose Convention Center.
