Web hosting giant Verio last week inked an agreement with Arsenal Digital Solutions, the industry’s first storage and applications service provider (SASP), to offer Arsenal’s managed storage, backup and recovery solutions to Verio web hosting and colocation customers in its Premier Data Centers.
This agreement with Arsenal will enable Verio to offer the backup and recovery solution as a value-added managed service, allowing customers in Verio’s hosting facilities to receive enterprise-class storage on a pay-as-you-use basis. The data backup and recovery includes all required hardware, software and associated maintenance. The service offering includes daily incremental and weekly full backups, customer initiated restores, expert installation, implementation and operation, and flexible off-site storage options.
By joining with Arsenal, Verio can provide its customers services available on a 24×7 basis, allowing companies to securely back up and protect data and to better predict storage-related costs. As part of the agreement, Verio has been named a Preferred Provider for colocation and hosting for Arsenal, who will provide customer referrals to Verio for colocation and hosting services.
“With the fully-managed, enterprise-class storage solution that Arsenal provides, we can offer our customers storage services which deliver enhanced protection of their mission-critical data,” said Kevin Goulet, vice president of product management for Verio. “In addition, we will monitor key issues such as capacity and contingency planning on an ongoing basis allowing us to provide our customers with the optimal solution at any point in their business cycle.”
Verio recently opened an 80,000-sq ft. Washington, D.C. area Premier Data Center, offering one of the most advanced hosting facilities available. By early 2001, Verio plans to open additional Premier Data Centers in cities such as Seattle, Dallas, Chicago, San Jose and Newark.
“By combining Arsenal’s storage utility solutions with Verio’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, we have created a unique blend of solutions for both the enterprise and e-commerce customer,” said Geoff Sinn, president and COO, Arsenal Digital Solutions. “With the exploding amounts of Internet data in today’s businesses, Verio’s customers can benefit from our focus on a proven storage technology in a secure environment. In addition, Arsenal intends to leverage this infrastructure to provide remote storage services to the market at large.”
Arsenal also announced last week that it plans to acquire filefrenzy, an Internet content management software developer, in a stock-for-stock transaction. The acquisition combines Arsenal’s “pay-as-you-go” storage utility with filefrenzy’s advanced data management tools. Upon closing, Arsenal will maintain filefrenzy’s 35-person Raleigh-based office as well as Arsenal’s team headquartered in Durham, North Carolina.
filefrenzy’s enterprise file management application will be integrated with Arsenal’s solution easily, since its Application Program Interface (API) was specifically designed to interface with a storage backend,. The development of a data management application was part of Arsenal’s overall strategic plan, and this acquisition will allow Arsenal to now provide its customers with a single source for sending, storing and managing data well ahead of the original projected time to market, according to Kevin H. Pollard, Arsenal chairman and CEO.
