Vignette and IBM Launch Blue Pack Solution

Nov 26, 2001

Strategic alliance partners Vignette Corp. , a provider of integrated content management applications and IT giant IBM Corp. today announced the launch of a joint marketing program for Blue Pack, a joint offering of IBM’s packaged e-infrastructure solutions and Vignette Content Suite V6.

The solution in aimed at eliminating customers’ need to work with up to five different vendors when purchasing and building out a complete e-business solution.

“Blue Pack demonstrates how the joint IBM and Vignette offering provides greater value to customers building or expanding e-business solutions,” says Per Larsen, vice president, eServer Solutions, IBM. “IBM and Vignette have packaged the key components to deliver a complete e-business infrastructure for rapid deployment of Vignette solutions at a lower cost of ownership.”

The two companies will market the solution as two different pre-bundled packages for both small to medium-sized Web sites and for more robust sites requiring seamless interoperability.

IBM says Blue Pack will be available on its eServer pSeries systems that already run Vignette’s Content Suite V6 software, designed for advanced content management.

“With the Vignette Content Suite V6, customers are obtaining tangible results that impact their bottom line. Working with IBM, we can deliver these results more quickly and cost-effectively,” says Greg Peters, chairman and CEO of Vignette. “This new offering will allow our customers to decrease implementation time and costs and increase revenue,” he explains.

“In a single integrated package, Blue Pack delivers hardware, software, services and financing — all the things customers tell us they need to build and maintain a secure e-business,” explains Larsen.

The Blue Pack solution also includes IBM middleware, including WebSphere Application server Advanced Edition and high-performance DB2 Universal Data Base Enterprise Edition.

IBM argues that these feature combine with Blue Pack’s other offering will allow companies to deliver targeted content more efficiently to their customers, partners and employees and streamline the content life cycle throughout the enterprise.
