Cingular Revamps ‘The Daily Me’

Cingular Wireless is offering a new and improved version of “The Daily Me” for data-capable cell phones with even more personalized content such as weather, stock quotes and movie listings.

The upgrade to its MEdia Net service is expected to simplify the way more than 30 million of its customers access the wireless Internet on their mobile phones, the company said. Expect fewer clicks to get there, too.

In addition, MEdia Net is offering a personalized “phone page” to add and remove content. Cingular said customers have already shown a desire to personalize their phones with ringtones, games and graphics, so the latest improvements are part of that deal.

The enhanced MEdia Net is another example of wireless Internet service providers offering increased levels of personalization to both individual consumers and enterprise.

In June Cingular Wireless signed a deal to sell Good Technology’s wireless e-mail and calendar product directly to business customers, the companies said.

Cingular’s more than 30 million customers with data-capable handsets will be automatically migrated to the new MEdia Net over the next several weeks.

Cingular has also taken the first step by linking localized content to the customer’s billing zip code.

According to de la Vega, the company interviewed hundreds of consumers at five different check points throughout the design process and spent thousands of hours improving the experience.

“We took our customers’ biggest frustrations with the current wireless Internet experience — that it’s too slow, too hard to use, and not relevant to them — as the key input toward the new design,” de la Vega said in the statement. “We checked back with our customers frequently throughout the design process to see how we were doing and kept making improvements.”
