Starting today, StarHub Mobile’s corporate customers will be the first in South Asia to be able to wirelessly access their Microsoft Exchange server for their Personal Information Management systems, such as corporate emails, calendars, contacts and tasks information in real-time – anytime, anywhere on their General Packet Radio Service- (GPRS) enabled mobile phone or pocket PC/PDA via StarHub’s GPRS network.
The new service will benefit corporations in two key ways. One, it enables corporations to leverage on their existing investments of Microsoft applications and mobile communications by providing mobile access to
existing PC-based applications. Second, employees will find the service user-friendly as they can access familiar Microsoft applications without worrying about equipment synchronization and set-up.
Users can personalize the service to receive short message service (SMS) notification alerts for selected incoming emails as well as effectively synchronize Outlook to allow them to read, revise and reply to selected information, and attach Microsoft Word documents and Excel spreadsheets. They can also use Microsoft CE ActiveSync to securely
synchronize email messages, calendars and contacts information from the
Microsoft Exchange 2000 server to their Pocket PC 2002-based device
wirelessly.
The easy access of information is made possible through the Microsoft
Mobile Information Server (MMIS). MMIS is able to provide access to large and dynamic company information, such as global address lists, that cannot be stored on mobile devices.
To access the MMIS service, StarHub Mobile’s customers will have to foot a one-time fee of about US$5.75, plus a monthly MMIS subscription charge of US$1.15 per user and a SMS charge of US$0.03 for every SMS notification received.
