Research in Motion may have been first to market with a smartphone, but the BlackBerry is rapidly losing ground to Apple’s iPhone. One of the key differentiators between the two is their online app stores. The Apple App Store is easy to use, easy to search, and it’s easy to make a purchase. The BlackBerry App World is none of that.
So the company is taking steps to change that, according to Enterprise Mobile Today, announcing an overhaul of App World, giving it many of the features that make App Store so usable.
Research in Motion, playing catch-up to Apple’s hot App Store market, announced App World 2.0 Wednesday, a major update to its online application store for BlackBerry owners.
The preview came at a private meeting in New York, which was promptly leaked to a variety of blogs. RIM (NASDAQ: RIMM) itself has not made a formal product announcement.
